LYRICAL TAG

For this audio assignment I decided to do Music Tag which you have to create a story by using audio snippets from song. The trick to this assignment is that every last word of that song have to be the first word to start your next song. Also, we have to try an include genres or decades. Now I did not exactly create a story but I did follow the rest of the assignment. Believe it or not, finding the last word for each song was not easy.

The first person was Marina and The Diamonds , you would think she sing songs back in the days but she do not, she is only only twenty-eight. The song I chose from her is Lies which came out in 2012:

The next time person is from ATL, I find him as one the greatest artist out here, the person I choose is T.I. The song I chose was Dead and Song (2008):

Now you know in every generation from the oldies to now and probably in the future there is always going to be a boy band, if you feel say hell yea: HELL YEA (lol)…Now this boy band been around for a good while and we know one of them as a solo artist Justin Timberlake. If anybody know which band he was in that means you been around long enough. The next artist or should I say former group ‘N SYNC. The song I chose was Gone (2001):

Karaoke Time!!

This is a step guided tutorial on how to remove vocals from a song using adobe audition.  With the song of your choice selected and open in audition, click on effects racks/stereo imagery/center channel extractor.

Also make sure that you select the range with in the track that you would like the vocals to be removed from.  With that being said refer to the image below.(Click to enlarge the image)

Next we will proceed with removing the vocals from this particular track.  There will be a mini box that should open up and at the top right corner, you should see presets and it should be defaulted to custom.  This needs to be changed, so click here and you should get a menu box, scroll down and click vocal remove. (refer to the image below)

One of the things I find great about this version of adobe audition is its ability to keep the bass of the track after striping away the vocals.  In any older version of audition, removing the vocals from a track will slightly distort the sound and remove the bass from the range of area selected, in addition this will require more editing to fix.  This saves more time and trouble trying to add the bass back.

But anyway, proceed by applying these effects.  To apply the effects made click apply at the bottom left side of the program.  Please view the image below for reference.

After removing the vocals and applying the effects, you may want to play the track and hear the changes made.

Now if you would like to export this as an mp3 or other source to listen to on a portal device etc.  On the top there will be a toolbar click “File” then “Export” and finally “File”.  Refer to the image below.  A mini box should open, from here you may save this file as an mp3 to whichever destination you would like on your computer, for example the desktop.

RADIO COMMERCIAL

This one stuck out to me I just had to do it. I used to work at a radio station back at my old college in long island so this project stuck out to me like a sore thumb. The aim of the project was to create a product for a character in a movie or show of your liking. I was inspired by this product used in the movie ” Coming To America ‘ called Soul Glo . in the movie Hakeem has to royally marry a female of his liking but he chooses to marry a humble girl from the inner city . Throughout the film he takes advice on how to meet a woman and a few characters suggest he start with his looks. Hair Products are of the main sources of this culture’s vanity and i just knew I had to make fun of that fact.

The main objective in a commercial of any kind is marketing and persuasion . Thats exactly why i went for a smooth voice in my audio with the help of my trusty recorder ( below ) :

At first my recording was a bit muzzled because i had connected my apple headphones to it and it was nearly as compatible as using studio headphones as far as recording goes. I decided to adjust the effects a tad bit with my first recording by altering the amplifications in the top right corner of my audacity screen. This allowed me to adjust the vocals in order for my voice to be clearer . I then did a separate recording to give more of a realer commercial feel as you see in any commercial on television and radio . The second recording was a lot smoother yet I still wanted it to stick out more so I simply brought my mouse to the audacity tool bar and adjusted the envelope ( top left corner ) of my background bed music . This resulted in my audio being a little louder than my background which is definitely what I wanted .

 

 

 

CRITIQUE BLOG POST !!

I am doing my critique on khalil’s ”Luncheon noise” . Overall Khalil’s project was very informative because his post told me a lot that I wanted to know . it was very direct and to the point . The only thing I suggest for a post like this would be to break up the information you have put forth into a paragraph structure rather than putting everything together. another Thing I noticed is that you didn’t really evaluate on how to use the recording device . Sometimes when i post I like to put down any problems I might have which in turn enlightens my classmates on devices and how they can learn from my mistakes. A simple sound cloud link or even some pictures of the recorder and its pieces would have sufficed .

Pictures like this can really inform the viewer on what the components and buttons on their device can really do. i know because it has helped me once before . The sound however was very descriptive of a lunch room surrounding as you explained . I heard the sound of the inhabitants as well as the man making the food . Good Job Overall

now Stephanie went with a different approach and went outdoors for her sounds .

Her recorder ( the Zoom h2n Handy recorder ) has a built in mic which is why she didn’t have to use an external piece. Both her and khalil’s recording sound pretty similar in recording which is a fact i’m not disputing but the presentation of the blog is what I wanted to compare . As I said before both parties did a great job as far as sound and what they were trying to show but the overall post differed in description and understanding . great job to both of you and these are steps that i even consider when I view any of my classmates post . Keep up the great work .

Interview & Music Mashup

I picked this assignment from the DS106 bank and it was actually an assignment I recently did for the last grading period. To be honest the last time i did this assignment I didn’t do so well and I know why its because I didn’t take the time to learn about audacity and implement those features into my sound editing . I had to re-adjust my whole approach and utilize what was in front of me in order to carry out the task. The first step was the assignment which I had originally always liked from the beginning I just did a mediocre job the last time. You should always start with an assignment you find interest in because then everything else becomes fun . Next I researched some interviews regarding the theme which is Positivity in hip Hop . The first interview I edited was when Kid Cudi visited the Arsenio hall show this month .

The next interview was conducted with artist Tupac shakur during his time in jail based on his approach and views on how bad the message in music has gotten and whats resulting from it .

The third interview was conducted in Australia while the legendary rapper Speech from the group Arrested development was on tour there .

The editing process was a bit tedious at first the easiest edit was Kid cudi’s audio . in order to put Tupac’s audio in i had to alter the amplifications on his voice Im guessing because this video audio was taken back in the 90’s when the technology wasn’t as good as it is now so i could tell the levels where off by clicking my zoom tab on the far upper left of the screen and actually seeing the peaks in the wave patterns . I spaced the responses out the let each one sit in the listeners head along with the smooth bed of music i have playing in the background .

With Speech’s response I adjusted some amplifications by going to effects on the middle region of the audacity tool bar . This did wonders for me because a lot of time background music can consume the audio of whatever you put on top of it. At the end of my mashup you can hear a child laughing I downloaded this sound off of freesound.org as professor Smith has shown us in a previous class . This sound was put forth in order to give more a feel good mood to the track showing that these responses where all based on the well fare of hip Hop’s most loyal crowd ..THE YOUTH .

Happy Circus

This isa project that I picked from the Ds 106 Bank, It is called Over-Dramatic-Reading. For this assignment, a student have to take a peice of work. The peice of work can be from a poem, from a song, or any literature they are able to found, and alter it. For this project I chose to use the song, ” Circus” by Britney Spears. This was an idea, that I felt extra excited about. And prior to my expectation, it was very interesting to do.

For this project I used the following three stanza of the song:

There’s only two types of people in the world
The ones that entertain, and the ones that observe

I’m like the ringleader

The song it self was sung in a very upbeat and provacative manner. It was a catchy song that promotes individuality, and bravery. The way I decided to alter the song, was to read it in a more dangerous tone. I thought that would’ve been a interesting contrast to the orginal. While the original version of the lyrics seem to be speaking to a specific group. The version I did can be interpreted by everyone. After recording my own voice into the Zoom H2n Handy recorder. I uploaded the file onto audacity. Inside audacity, I added three separate sound effects to make my altered version more unique. I incorporated signs of evil clows laughing, woman screaming, and a audio of a cirus disaster. The Videos I used are:

My reflection: I personally felt scared and terrified from hearing the sound effects alone. I thought the presence of my voice actually made the whole thing more delicate. I hope I did a good job in building fair amongst my peers from this project. While listening to my recording again, I can’t help but imagine how frightened I would be in such a situation. We have a crazy announcer talking about owning the stage, while the lions and tigers are running free from the stage. The cage is open, and the beasts are going wild. There is three maschonist clown laughing at the terror of this choatic situation.

Critique #1

Alicia has created many different blog posts. For my post, I would be critiquing one of her post entitled Never Stop, Never Rest until Your Good Gets Better & Your Better gets BEST! The reason why I chose this post was because I’ve personally seen how much time and effort she has put into this assignment. I like how in the beginning of her post she includes what her assignment was. It was also a good idea including the message that she was trying to come across in her mash-up. However, while listening to her audio piece, after listening to the mash-up, there’s a long silence that just kept playing. Maybe if there was some type of way to edit that part out, it would be great. With the long silence I felt as though there was something missing that I wasn’t able to hear and it left me wondering for quite some time.

Another thing that she should have included was more information on Pro-Tools. It would have been a great idea if she went more in depth about the different steps she took in Pro-Tools which resulted in the mash-up and explain more about any specific difficulties she may have been faced with. Besides the fact that her post could have been a little more detailed, I think she did an amazing job on her song mash-up. It was a great idea including each song into the blog post, as well as talking about the messages behind each song that she choose. Great Job!

For Melvin, I was going through his blog posts and came across another mashup that he created. The name of his blog post was 2 Song Music Mashup. His mashup consisted of two songs by the artist Pharrell. The two songs were “Happy” and “Get Lucky.” What I loved about this mashup was that he included two songs by the same artist. It made it a little more interested to listen to so that I can hear how well he put the two songs together. Melvin did an outstanding job mashing the songs together because they both went well together. However, I think it would been a little cool if he switched back and forth with the songs more because I felt like I was listening to one of the songs for a while before it switched over to the next song. Another thing was maybe he could have included a little more information in his blog post explaining his step by step process in completing the mashup, it would give the viewers an idea of what he went through while doing the mashup. Other than that, I believe Melvin did a great job.

For Alicia and Melvin’s project, they both did an excellent job in their mashups. Both used ProTools to complete their mashups. While Alicia took a different route and mashed a few songs together, Melvin just did two songs. They both said that it was a little difficult doing the mashup, however they both did a great job!

Let’s Get Mixin’!

At the Sony Wonder Technology Lab, there’s lots of different exhibits which you are able to explore. This museum includes different activities which teaches you about the different ways in which technology works. It gives a hands on experience for its’ visitors so that they too can be able to bring their ideas to life!

The Sony Wonder Technology Lab was opened on May 25, 1994. This museum is operated as well as funded by the Sony Corporation of America. At this time, the museum was mostly focused primarily on Communications Technology. This allowed the visitors to learn more about electronics devices and how they worked. However, by October of 2003,  the museum expanded including more exhibits on music, movies and even games. By October 2008, the SWTL introduced 14 new exhibits. This expansion gave the museum a better name. Not only was it about technology, but also entertainment. Today, this museum carries many different exhibits in which its visitors can partake in. Not only is it filled with lots of fun and excitement, but it’s also really educational.

For this assignment, I decided to go to the music mixing section. At this station, I was given the opportunity to create my own different mix to a song sang by Alicia Keys. In June 2011, the lab opened up a new exhibit known as the Music Mixer. At this exhibit, the visitors are interactive with a virtual version of Grammy winner, Alicia Keys. She gives a little clip from her song, “Empire State of Mind” and allows the participants to put their own little mix to it.

Music-Mixer For this activity, I was allowed to choose from a variety of instrument tracks from different genres which included Hip-Hop, Latin and much more! After choosing the genre, we was given the option of how high or low we wanted the range to be. After selecting your new “add on” you simply dragged it out into the song so that you can hear your mix in the song. This was a fun activity because it shows you all of the different ways that people mix music and the many different options they usually have to choose from. When making a song, it includes lots of thinking and creativity just to get the song how you imagined it to sound like.

I really enjoyed this activity because I learned a lot. The most important thing that I learned however was to LISTEN CLOSELY. Sometimes I had problems in the activity because I wasn’t able to listen to what kind of sounds I was making. It made it extra difficult because I wasn’t the only one there. There were 5 other people also making their own twist to the song and adding it into the song. We had to work together as a team in order to make a fantastic mix, however our mix at the end sounded kind of jumbled up. Aside from this situation, the activity was lots of fun and gave me an incite of what it’s like being a music producer and even a DJ! I would love to visit the Sony Wonder Technology Lab again soon!

I did a group project with Lay Wah and Jayson. In this project we created a scenario at an amusement park where we were arguing about which ride we wanted to go on. We created the setting by using our dialogue first and then we added the correct audio to back up our ideas. This was a fun assignment and it was very loose an it helped me become more creative with my ideas. The dialogue made the project way easier and we all had a hand in the project.

Let her go – Passenger

This is an assignment i did before but the reason i did it over again was because i wanted to improve it.This was a lot more difficult that the first one i did before.The assignment is on the DS106 Audio assignment website. It’s to do an Over Dramatic Reading.The purpose of the assignment is to pick your favorite song or poem but here’s the trick you have to read it in the opposite meaning of what it’s actually saying.For example in my last assignment i did Miley Cryus Wreaking Ball and i read it in a very sad tone of voice because it’s a very upbeat song. With this assignment i did the total opposite because i picked a sad song which is Let her go by Passenger. I always loved this song and the message behind it which is the simple  fact of letting the girl you love go. The most difficult part of this assignment for me was to read the lyrics in a very happy tone.I tried recording it over twenty times and the final product of which i’m pleased about is above. Recording always takes practice and i tried to sound hyper and happy when recording this song!let her go

The recorder i choose was my favorite one which is the Zoom H2N Handy Recorder! The  reason i love using this recorder is because it’s really small and its simplicity couldn’t get any better. I love the playback button which is on the right ride so when you finish recording your piece ,you could listen to it over again just to make sure it’s prefect! One fun fact for my fellow DS106 students is to hold the recorder farther away from your mouth because it’s going to sound more clear. When you have it close to your mouth is start to scramble and the final product doesn’t come out that great. I really enjoyed doing this assignment because i put a lot more effort into it because it was a different tone of voice! Hope to see you try it too 🙂
