OMG I’M LATE!!!!!!!

OH SHOOT, I’m going to be late..I hope I don’t get in trouble. The audio assignment I did was Sound Effects Story where you have to create a story with no verbal communication just sound effects. One thing that came to mind when I thought of sound effects was school because I watched movies that deals with students being late for that ONE CLASS, you know what I’m talking about, you been there because I have for sure. I decided to get the sounds from freesound.org. The sounds you are going to hear is stairs, bell, breathing, lockers, and the doors. I was trying to find the perfect sound to make it sound real. I use the protools to do the sound effect.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

This audio assignment was to retell a joke. The joke had to be told using a language other than your own. For this assignment I chose to use French. In English the joke reads as follows: “Listen, listen to me. So, I went to my doctor and told him that I had broken my arm in two places. Do you know what he said to me? He said don’t go back to those places….crazy right?”. This was the brief joke and I don’t expect most people to understand it from just listening.

For the assignment we were to include background music to play throughout the track and at the end include a laughing sound effect. I thought it was pretty simple and the editing didn’t require much difficulty.  I used the Zoom for the recording of the joke. All in all it was a simple sound project. One thing that I did learn was how to adjust the lows, mids, and highs for an audio track on Adobe Audition which I found was really awesome. The option called “parametric equalizer” enables you increase or decrease these aspects. The more I use this program the more I discover new things within it. For the background music I increased the lows, which is the bass, to add more of a real feel to the track as if you were there yourself listening to the joke in a place like a lounge.

Phenomenal Women – Over Dramatic Reading

I got this idea when I saw Alley’s post and thought to myself ” hmm okay this is an interesting approach to a project “. It pulled me in right away. The aim was to read a famous poem but in kind of a different way to make it yours . Then suddenly a lightbulb popped up and I automatically thought of maya Angelou and her influence throughout the years on not only the literary world but pop culture as a whole  . One of her most famous pieces “Phenomenal Woman ” was embraced by the nation as she described the true attributes and reasons you should appreciate a woman . The obvious twist is that a man but yet as a human being I can’t help but embrace every word and bring it to you guys .

Phenomenal Woman

BY MAYA ANGELOU

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need for my care.
’Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Once again I used the zoom h2n handy recorder for this assignment which balanced out my vocals well .  The playback button ( right side of device )  was so helpful because I had to run it back a few times in order to put enough emotion in voice to fully get into the words . One common mistake is putting it to close to your mouth which will result in the recording coming out bad so definitely try to distance yourself from the device when recording .

Family guy: The Twilight Zone

So the assignment chosen for this blog is called “Teezee Reference” and the goal here is to find an audio clip of a show or movie outside of the twilight zone. I choose an episode of family guy called “Wasted Talent” focusing on the last scene was the key, it was a parody based on an episode of the twilight zone called “Time enough at last”.

Time_Enough_at_Last1tumblr_lwtd8xeHYk1qd1naf

From the original episode of the twilight zone the story summed up is about a quote-unquote  man who seeks salvation in the rubble of a ruined world and tells of Henry Bemis, played by Burgess Meredith, who loves books yet is surrounded by those who would prevent him from reading them.  Family guy does a parody of this episode where quote-unquote “Peter is so drunk that he cannot even find the piano. Lois has to turn him around to face the piano, then move him over a couple of inches to play in the correct key. Peter and Lois win first place, but Lois frets that she may have harmed his health for her own selfish need to win. Peter defensively tells her all of his brain cells are intact. There is one left, and it realizes that it is the only cell in the brain. He can finally read all of his books; he then bends down and breaks his glasses, exclaiming “That’s not fair! It’s not fair! There was time now!”” source: wikipedia

DO YOU WANT TO STAY HERE?

Everybody do not only want to stay in New York even some people find it the best state to live, as people will call it “THE BIG APPLE”.  You think people would say Texas, Washington, Australia but no way. This is assignment is called One Question from the DS106 Assignment Bank. I decided to ask people this question:

IF YOU WANTED TO MOVE AWAY FROM NEW YORK, WHERE WOULD YOU WANT TO MOVE TO?

You will be surprise at certain answers you get. I thought I was only getting one answer which I did but I also got two answers which I find funny because I would probably live there as well. I did not get a chance to give my answer but I am going to give it on here. I would move to Japan, England, Paris, and maybe Florida.

Do you want to go to any of these places? Or do you have another place in mind?

Well wherever it must be better than living in NEW YORK CITY, right?

By the way, when you listen to it, do not think its Protools or Audacity..Its MIXX. I am still processing Mixx but this is the first.

Beauty is Life

For this project I chose from the Ds 106 bank once more, it is called Poetry Reading. For this assignment, I have to found a certain poem and read it as if it was a story. “Love is a Million colors” was a poem I found through google. I can’t help but fall in love with this poem at first sight. It was straight forward, clear and innocent. It reminded me of life itself. Beauty is in the simplest form of things. However, We choose to either over look it, or overcomplicate it. I took this project as an opportunity for a audio project. And for some self reflection that was much needed.

The Poem Name: Beauty is a Million Colors.

Beauty is more than appearance
Beauty is love
The graceful wings of a dove
The endless imagination in a dream
Beauty is not always something that can be seen

Beauty is laughter
And the remembrance after
Beauty is hope
When you have no reason to
Beauty is he and she and me and you

Beauty is forgiving
No matter how hard
Beauty is kindness
Making the best of a mess

Beauty is tears
And overcoming your fears
Beauty is individuality
The courage to be yourself
Beauty is a book, sitting on a shelf

To define beauty,
An impossible task
Because truly,
Does anyone really know, I ask
Beauty is different to me
Than to you
I wonder if anyone ever knew

By: Sareeah Keelyn

The poem tells a story of a woman, She was a perfectionist. While the description could have been her biggest vice to see the details in everything. It was also her biggest curse. The ability to see every single detail means the flaws that could so easily be overlooked by casual onlookers, was noted and magnified many more times for the girl. From young, she had a very casual and very stern belief of beauty. She thought beauty was what she saw on certain individuals faces, she thought beauty was the grand and elegant structures of aristocratic architectures, the beautiful red in a rose, and the immortal gleam of sparkling daimonds. Her perception was shaped by the society around her. It didn’t take her long before she realized that the theme that her beauty standards revolved around held no substance. One day, she sat among her gilded ivory arm chair, holding a rose within her hand. She starts to wonder of it’s beauty.

“Do you see the beauty in this rose?” the woman asked, holding up the rose to the young servant girl.

“Yes, it’s very beautiful” the girl responds.

“You don’t think, it’s lacking in color?” The woman asked with a light frown.

“What is the standard for a beautiful rose, don’t they all grow differently even when they are all the same? If it was about the physical appearance of the rose. I know now how to judge mam. For my eyes are not as discerning as yours”

“Then what kind of beauty are you speaking of, if not the physical?” the woman asked amused.

“The beauty of life of course, it’s hardships as it sprouted from it’s seed. It’s struggle to grow into a full bloom that it is today”

The woman blinked in silent as she returned her gaze back onto the rose. Understanding at the very moment that beauty was indeed the process of developing and maturing.

The end.

The recorder that I used to record my assignment is the Zoom H2n handy reocrding once again. fOr this post. I gave a full on story. I think my creativity should boot this to a level two post.

Mix it…Cut it…Fix it.. Audition It

One of the best audio editing software programs around is Adobe Audition. It’s very user friendly and can be learned with little effort. It allows you to do anything from mixing separate tracks to changing sounds with sound effect defaults. So lets start it up. Like every other program you click to open i and after audition is done loading, it presents you with the basic structure for which you will be using. On the upper left you have the simple waveform option which is for single track editing. Next to that is the Multitrack option which is for multiple track mixing and editing. Below those options is the panel which shows the names of the audio files which are opened for use in the program.

adau

On the center-right side of the program is the main section which displays the audio track and its waveform. Here is where you can view the whole track or zoom in to see shorter increments of the track. It allows you to adjust volume for the whole track or individually for the left or right channel. This section also has the simple play/stop and record options. Below this section is another section which displays the levels of your track. Here you can view the level of dB’s. On the left side of the program there is a panel which is below the file panel and this is the primary editing panel for sound. It allows you to add sound effects, markers, and to search for other media to include. You can choose effects such as reverb, am radio, underwater, and many other variations.

When you want to edit a sound track you simply go to file and open. Select the file and it will appear in the file tab. Then you can chose to add any sound effects to it or adjust the volume to the entire track or to the left or right channels. You can right click on the track and split the track which would allow you to separate it into parts. You can even delete parts of the track completely. When mixing multiple tracks together the room for editing drastically increases. They’re  various combinations of mixing and editing productions that can be done. After you’re done you can save the multitracks together as one and also change to output format to mp3. This is a simple tutorial of the basics for adobe audition. It holds a lot more features and details. Once you give it a try you’ll see how efficient it really is.

That’s An Emergency?

Help it’s an emergency!!! Ever made an emergency call to 911? Hopefully if you have, it wasn’t anything life threatening. But on a less tense note, for those who have never made a 911 call what if you can recreate your own call? That was the main idea of this project that I did from the ds 106 audio assignments. The purpose of the assignment was to create a recording of a 911 emergency how you think it would be but be creative. I chose to do a short ridiculous 911 phone call. I used Adobe Audition to do all the editing and this time it was a little more interesting. Previously I’d done a project that would’ve been better if I captured the realistic essence of it. For example, obtaining or recreating actual restaurant sounds would’ve made my past project way better. But for this project I did my best to create the sounds of those who work as the phone recipients for 911 emergencies. It was also cool to make the phone call recording sound like an actual voice on the phone. All these effects were available on audition. The phone call and dog bark samples were downloaded via YouTube. The realistic touch was provided by the background office sounds which would through the point of view of the recipient.  I thought the project came out very well. Once again I also used the H2N Zoom for the initial voice recordings. Hope you enjoy listening to the ridiculous phone call.

Mash it Up Kaskade!

For this project I chose to use some of my own eclectic taste in music. The assignment was to create a mash-up of a favorite artist of yours supposedly their greatest hits.  You were suppose to take five popular tracks from the artist and mix them together, “So and So’s greatest hits”.

I chose to do a mash-up of DJ Kaskade’s songs. Recently I went to one of his concerts and it was the really amazing. The sound amplitude and visual effects were perfect. The first song on the mix is  called “Something, something”. It mixes with his second track, “Underlying Feeling”. The track switches over to his remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful”. “Only You” is the following track and the final track which mixes into it is “Eyes”. I mixed in all the tracks and cut certain segments of the songs and put them together with the help of Adobe Audition. Thought it came out pretty good.

The Music mash up hotline!

So this next assignment I choose to do requires a clip from any chosen 6 songs to be combined into an mp3 track. I actually did 7 instead but anyway, someone must then guess the songs being in this combined track. It may be difficult for many to guess at songs may be playing so I made things a bit more easier by choosing well known artists and using clips of the chorus part of the song.

Below are photos of the artists in this audio clip in order of played.
